1970 Buick Skylark before the major body and paint and upgrades ..

1970 Buick Skylark  Custom 4 door Sedan

Power Steering , Air Conditioning , Tilt Wheel  and Stainless chrome all around .

This car was bought in 1970 . Off the showroom floor from Clark Brothers Buick in Pomona California.

The owner of my Buick took very good care of this vehicle and always

brought  the vehicle in for service regularly at our shop were I worked.

Until she was not able to drive this vehicle any longer .

So she asked me .  If I wanted to buy the old Buick Skylark

and Please help me get it out of my driveway.

350.00 dollars and it's yours.

I'll take it..

It's mine now..

The body was pretty messed up as you can see..

This is some pictures of my  1970 Buick Skylark after the first paint job in 1997

 The Buick 455 V8 The 455.72 in³ (7.5 L) 455 Buick V8 used a 4.312 in bore and 3.90 in stroke.

It was produced from 1970 to 1976 and was based on the 400/430 V8.

The regular Buick 350 cid. was conservatively rated at 350 hp (261 kW)

While the 455 Stage 1 was underrated at 360 hp (269 kW).

The regular 455 could produce 410 to 420 hp .

While the Stage 1 produced 415 to 425 hp (310 to 317 kW). The regular 455 produced a rated Template:

Convert/ft-lb of torque, more than any other muscle car engine.

The HP was somewhat reduced in 1971,

Mainly due to the reduction in cylinder compression ratio in order to cope with the introduction new federal laws.

Requiring new cars to use unleaded gasoline .

The Buick Skylark  GS was one of  the fastest  muscle cars of the 1970,s .

I want my Buick skylark to have this same characteristics .

Well " as close as I can get for a 4 door sedan.

The first thing I ever wanted to do to this car was to pull the engine out and rebuild it just like the Skylark GS .

Then the paint and body . New tires and wheels. Transmission and rear differential .

The seats carpet and headliner was replaced , Everything works on this car inside and out.

I got the 455 engine block from a parts driver that saw my Buick parked across the street.

He asked me if that was my Buick .

He told me he had a 455 engine block from a 1972 Buick Electra Sitting on the floor in his garage.

You want it. YES I want it.. He drove over the next day and dumped all the parts on the floor..

Pistons , Crank shaft , Block  oil pan , Camshaft , lifters ,  Timing cover , Pulleys , The stock Intake weighs 100 lbs. alone.

Oh man what did I get myself into. This thing is Junk..  Long story..

Building my Buick 455 engine took my about 4 to 5 years to gather all the upgraded parts needed to make the engine swap.

Then it was time to start pulling the old 350 v8 engine out..

Offenhouser racing intake manifold

That Weighs less then the full cast-iron Intake . And increase in horse power to boot.

The engine block was setting in water for years and was rusted inside and out.

The cylinders had to be bored out oversized to remove the rust from the cylinder walls

The Engine Block was then hot tanked and rebuilt with new cam bearings

 freeze plugs installed .

The pistons have dome top to allow low octane fuel usage.

All the parts were bought from Napa Auto Parts in Chino Ca.

The Machinist BOB at NAPA Auto parts

Helped with the machine work and Oversized the block .60 over.  Thanks BOB.

Complete Engine assembly was sitting in my garage for 3 years .

While I collected the rest of the parts needed for the engine swap .
